The April meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter.  Members present were: Ken Punter, Supervisor; Penny Sherman, Clerk; and Elmer Hoyle, Trustee.  Treasurer Sonja Patterson and Trustee Bruce Yonker were absent.  Also present were:  Greg Crowley, Fire Chief, 4 Residents and 1 guest.   Pledge to the Flag was led by Jack Link.  Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle.  Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to approve the minutes from the Regular Township Board Meeting held March 13, 2014 and Special Meetings held March 17, 2014 and March 31, 2014.  Motion carried.  Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to approve Agenda with one additional item under Unfinished Business (MCRC letter regarding Brining).  Motion carried.

Public Comments: Questions were asked inquiring as to when the Master Plan update will begin.

Drain Commissioner Brenda Moore was present to introduce herself and give the township updates as to what her office is involved in.  Drains were also discussed.


Assessor: Finishing up the reassessment.

Fire Board: Call Report: 5 Medicals and 5 Fires (2 assist to Moorland).  Gas bill was discussed.  We will contact Klein Heating and Cooling and look into installing locks on all the thermostats.   People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs will be $20.00 and may be purchased by contacting the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: Ravenna Township is now using MTS for all inspection needs. We will have a report to review at our next meeting.

Zoning Administrator: 4 Special Use applications have been filed.

Museum/Library: Open House went great and was very well attended.

Cemetery: Everything is going fine.  Ornamentation can be placed on graves beginning April 1st.

Planning Commission: Will meet on May 1, 2014 to hold a Public Hearing and have a meeting regarding 4 Special Use applications.

Chamber of Commerce: Sherman and Punter attended.

New Business: Resolution 14-01 A Resolution To Approve Schedule of Building Permit Fees was presented.  Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to adopt Resolution 14-01.  Roll call vote taken: Hoyle-Aye, Sherman-Aye and Punter-Aye.  Motion carried.  Annual Township tour will take place Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. Zoning Administrator Tony Zaidel will also go along on the tour.  The Regular May Township Board meeting will be moved to Monday, May 5, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.  Electricity to the Cemetery Pavilion was discussed and will be looked into.  Guards need to be placed in front of the outside meters.  Hoyle will contact Jerry’s Welding to do this for us.

Unfinished Business: Ravenna Township Dump Day will be Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  Padno’s will be on sight for all scrap metal.  NO SCRAPPING WILL BE ALLOWED.  Brine letter was received from MCRC and must be signed and returned to them stating that we will not be having MCRC do our brining this year.  We will be a having D & B Brining do the Township brining this year.

Treasurers Report: Sherman presented Treasurer’s Report.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Sherman to pay all bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried. 

Correspondence: Sherman read correspondence received from Ravenna FFA and Greater Muskegon Memorial Day Committee, Inc.

Public Comment: None.
