RAVENNA TOWNSHIP PLANNING COMMISSION

MEETING MINUTES

July 8, 2014

A meeting of the Ravenna Township Planning Commission was called to order on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 7:00 by Chairman Jack Link.  Members present were: Jack Link, Roger Peacock, Mike Gillard and Stan Wagner; Elmer Hoyle arrived at 7:30 p.m. due to a prior commitment.  Zoning Administrator Tony Zaidel, Erin Kuhn, Executive Director of the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission and 8 guests were also in attendance.  Pledge to the flag was led by Chairman Link.

Motion by Wagner, support by Peacock to approve the minutes from the June 5, 2014 Planning Commission Meeting.  Motion carried.

Agenda was approved as presented.

Citizen’s Comments: Citizen spoke asking that the Planning Commission dream big for our Township and also look into seeking Grant Funds for projects.   The survey that the Planning Commission created was sent out in all of the Township tax bills.

New Business:

Ritz boundary line adjustment was discussed.  Motion by Peacock, support by Gillard to table the Ritz boundary line adjustment until further information is available.  Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:

Peacock introduced Erin Kuhn, Executive Director of the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission (WMSRDC).  She was very involved in the Muskegon Area Wide Plan that was created in 2005 and updated in 2013. She stated that WMSRDC is available to answer questions that we may have regarding updating our Master Plan.  They also offer an Asset Management Road Rating that is available to Townships that allow every road in the township to be rated as to the quality of the road.  She stated that the biggest stumbling block in creating and updating a Master Plan is turnover in local government.  The presentation was very informative.

Master Plan was discussed.  A vision statement will begin to be created at the next meeting.  The old plan was very well done.  New topics will be added to the Master Plan Discussion Categories.  Each Planning Commission member will go over the old plan and bring back ideas as to what needs to be added, deleted or changed.

Next Planning Commission meeting will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 with a Public Hearing at 6:30 p.m. and meeting to follow.

Meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by Penny Sherman, Recording Secretary
