RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES

May 5, 2014

The May meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Fire Chief Greg Crowley.  Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle.  Members present were:  Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Elmer Hoyle, Trustee; Bruce Yonker, Trustee; Greg Crowley, Fire Chief; and one resident.  Motion by Sherman, support by Yonker to approve agenda with 2 additions (Budget review and setting of dates and times for Budget workshop & Budget Public Hearing).  Motion by Yonker, support by Patterson to approve minutes from the April 10, 2014 Township Board meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: None

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor:  No report.

Fire Board:  Call report: 6 Medicals, 1 P.I., 9 Fires (4 assists to Moorland and 2 assists to Casnovia) and 3 Wire Down calls.  The 4 new Firemen (Jeremy Crowley, Chad Patterson, Wayne Port and Scott Hilgeman) have completed their fire training.  Ravenna Township Fire Department will be participating in the Memorial Day Parade.  People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.  Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector:  Monthly report from Michigan Township Services was received stating that 5 permits have been issued.  Patterson sent a letter cancelling BS&A for the building department.

Museum/Library: Doors will be finished soon as will the sidewalk.

Cemetery:  Insurance company has been notified of the damage to the cemetery due to the recent wind storm.  Clerk Sherman is going to contact the County to see if any FEMA funds are available first before an insurance claim is processed.  Larry Darcy thanked the Township for the Fruit basket after his recent surgery.

Planning Commission: Met on May 1, 2014 and approved 4 Special Use Applications.

Zoning Administrator: No report.

Chamber of Commerce:  Will meet on May 13, 2014.

New Business: Punter, Hoyle and Yonker took the annual tour around Ravenna Township and 7 residents will be receiving letters regarding property clean-up.  Building Inspector Greg Mason and Punter toured a residence in need of repair.  Punter will contact the Drain Commissioner regarding Seba Road.  Sherman presented a budget update.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Sherman to amend Legislative Legal Fees $2,040.28, Appointed Personnel Ordinance Enforcement Contracted Services $1,739.14, Elections $468.25, Township Hall Capital Outlay $1,746.89, Museum/Library $12,571.93 (Utilities $155.37, Supplies/Main. $6,159.10, and Library Donation Expense $6,257.46), all funds are available from the Fund Balance.  Roll call vote taken: Punter-Aye, Yonker-Aye, Hoyle-Aye, Patterson-Aye, Sherman-Aye.  Motion carried.  Budget Workshop will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. and the Public Hearing for the Budget will be held on Thursday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m.

Unfinished Business: Dump Day went very well.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to pay bills and accept Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.  

Two people have filed nominating petitions to run for Trustee.

Annual Township Audit will be held July 28, 2014 and July 29, 2014.

Correspondence:  Letter received from Kay Punter asking to form a Citizen’s Committee to put input into the Master Plan.  Notification was received regarding Berm Removal (Ravenna Rd between Ellis Rd and Wilson Rd and Moorland Rd between Ellis Rd and Wilson Rd). Notice received from Seventh-Day Adventist Church stating they will be in the area this summer.  Letter received from Ravenna Softball player asking for donation (township funds cannot be used for this purpose but we wish them well this season).
