RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES
April 9, 2015
The April meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Todd Broton. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle. Members present were: Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Elmer Hoyle, Trustee; Bruce Yonker, Trustee; Fire Chief Greg Crowley; 6 guests. Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve Agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Patterson, support by Yonker to approve the minutes from the March 12, 2015 meeting. Motion carried.
Citizens Comments: Resident complained that they were not being treated fairly regarding a housing issue. Residents wanted to know what is the normal procedure for repairing a roof.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Assessor: Board of Review decisions have been mailed.
Fire Board: Call report: 17 Medicals, 2 Fires (1 assist to Fruitport and 1 assist to Coopersville). Firemen are still waiting to get the new truck lettered. People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits. Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.
Building Inspector: 3 permits were issued (1 building and 2 mechanical).
Museum/Library: Fireplace has been repaired.
Cemetery: Additional cemetery workers were discussed. Motion by Punter, support by Sherman to hire Christian Meyer again this summer for seasonal help, and to also hire Scott Randolph for help on an as needed basis. Motion carried.
Planning Commission: Planning Commission met on March 16, 2015 to work on the Master Plan. Next Planning Commission meeting will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 with a Public Hearing to be held prior to the meeting.
Zoning Administrator: No report.
Chamber of Commerce: Hoyle, Patterson and Sherman attended. We would like to host the June 9th Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Township Hall.
Ravenna Area Historical Society: Patterson attended the RAHS meeting and gave an update and budget report. Minutes from the RAHS meetings are available at the Township Hall. Next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.
Road Commission: Hoyle attended the Road Commission meeting. Township has received financial reimbursement from the Road Commission for the February 24, 2015 election.
New Business: .net was discussed. Punter received a quote of $6,710.00, which includes installation, to change over to .net program for Tax and Assessing. Motion by Patterson, support by Sherman to approve purchasing the .net program. Motion carried. Punter and Hoyle went on a tour of the Township and everything went well. Four letters will be sent regarding cleaning up their property. Township streetlights were discussed, Punter and Sherman will be meeting with the Village to discussion the portion of the streetlight bill that the Township is responsible for.
Unfinished Business: Historical Society Ordinance and Bylaws and Rules of Procedure were discussed. Sherman reported that the Township has received notice that we will be reimbursed $5,105.86 from the State Disaster Contingency fund due to damages occurred in the Ravenna Township Cemetery from the April 12, 2014 storm. Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to table the FEMA Resolution and Ordinance regarding Floodplain development until more information is available. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: Patterson presented Treasurer’s report. Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried. Sherman gave a Budget update for the Township Budget. Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to amend the 2014-2015 Township Budget as follows: $709.49 for Election expense and $1,510.36 for Township Hall-Repairs/Maintenance expense. Motion carried. All amendments are made available through the Township Fund Balance. Our website address is www.ravennatwp.com.
Correspondence: The Annual Ravenna Township Dump Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 7:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Livestock Sale parking lot. Padno’s will also be there for any scrap metal collection and all proceeds from the scrap metal collection will be used to offset the cost of Dump Day.
Ravenna Township will once again participate in the FREE DISPOSAL OF SCRAP TIRES EVENT along with Egelston, Moorland and Sullivan Townships. These events will be held on the following Saturdays: June 6th, June 27th, July 25th and August 22nd from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at 4970 E. Apple Avenue, Muskegon.
