RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES

December 10, 2015

The December meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Laura Peterson. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle.  Members present were:  Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; and Elmer Hoyle, Trustee.  Trustee Bruce Yonker was absent. Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley and five residents.  Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to approve the Agenda.  Motion carried.  Motion by Patterson, support by Hoyle to approve the minutes from the November 12, 2015 Regular Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: Obtaining Fiber Optics was discussed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: Board of Review will be held on December 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.  This Board of Review session is only for errors and omissions.

Fire Board:  Call report:  4 Medicals, 2 P.I.’s and 2 Fires.  Fire Truck 1820 needs to have the pump either rebuilt or replaced.  Approximately 150 kids visited with Santa Claus and approximately 300 people were in attendance at the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony that was held on December 6th.   Fire Chief Crowley would like to thank all of the people that attended and for the Firemen who helped make this event a success.  The street light on the corner of Blackmer Rd and Ellis Rd is out and the one at the village limit is also out.  Punter will contact Consumers Energy and let them know.   We will also be adding a light at the corner of Seba Rd and Ellis Rd.

People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: 7 permits were issued (1 building and 6 mechanical).

Museum/Library: Santa Claus visited the Library on Saturday, December 5th and lots of kids came out to see him.  Diane Landheer will be retiring from the Library on December 30th.  Sue Grover has resigned from the Library and her last day was November 30th.  MADL has notified the Township and stated that they will not be replacing either of our Librarians at this time and that permanent subs will be used to fill in.  Fruitport library was discussed.  The new sign for the East side of the Library has been approved and will be installed soon.

Cemetery:  Everything is going fine.

Planning Commission: Planning Commission met on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. and will be forwarding the Master Plan on to the Township Board.

Zoning Administrator:  MTS has been contacted regarding expired permits.

Chamber of Commerce: Hoyle and Sherman attended the Annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas Party on December 8th at Moss Ridge.

Ravenna Area Historical Society:  Antique ornaments are on display at the Museum.

Road Commission: No report.

New Business: Sherman submitted the updated Master Plan to the Township Board for review and will place on the Agenda for discussion at the January Township Board meeting.  Patterson reported that the Township tax bills have been revised and remailed out to all property owners due to a decrease in the Quality of Life millage rate.  Please pay the green tax bill and discard the blue tax bill. Thank you for your cooperation!!  Ravenna Booster Club submitted a resolution for Township approval regarding acknowledgement of their nonprofit organization status.  Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to approve a Local Governing Body Resolution for Charitable Gaming Licenses.  Roll call vote taken:  Sherman-Aye; Patterson-Aye; Hoyle-Aye; Punter-Aye.  Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:  None.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Sherman support by Patterson to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

The 2015 Plat Books are available at the Township office and cost $30.00.

Public Comment:  Citizen inquired about a different truck route into MTI.  Punter stated that he will check with the Road Commission regarding an alternate route.  Punter spoke with the party allegedly involved with dumping old tires on the side of the road.

Presidential Primary Election will be held on March 8th.  There will be two separate ballots (Republican and Democrat) and you will have to declare which ballot you choose to vote.
