RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTESDecember 14, 2017

The December meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Hall by Supervisor Elmer Hoyle. Pledge to the Flag was led by Trustee Bruce Yonker. Prayer was led by Supervisor Hoyle.  Members present were:  Elmer Hoyle, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and John Bonthuis, Trustee.  Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley and one resident.  Motion by Bonthuis, support by Yonker to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.   Motion by Yonker, support by Bonthuis to approve the Minutes from the November 9, 2017.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: Resident stated that he has received an offer to lease his land to a solar farm.  This resident also stated that the County Assessors were recently to his property because they were doing assessments in the area.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: December Board of Review was held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017.  This Board of Review is for errors and omissions and included PRE’s, 1 recapping and 1 poverty exemption.

Fire Board:  Call report:  16 Medicals, 1 P.I. and 3 Fires.   The County needs to purchase a new porta count fit tester.  The price for each Fire Department will be $1,080.00 and comes with a 5 year warranty.   The thermal imager has been sent out for repair.   Total calls for this year seem to be more than last year.  Fire Fighters need to turn in current copies of their car insurance for our records.  The Annual Tree Lighting and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus was a huge success!! People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: Eight permits were issued: 1 Building, 5 Electrical and 2 Mechanical. The 10% reimbursement check from MTS was $198.00 which included an extra $22.25 from the previous month.

Museum/Library: The ceiling fan in the library needs to be replaced.  Also, the Librarians would like a new refrigerator because they currently only have a small compact one.

Cemetery:  Bill Funk will be doing the plowing at the Cemetery this winter.  Winter ornamentation has begun to be placed on the graves.

Planning Commission: Did not meet.

Zoning Administrator:   Everything is going fine.

Chamber of Commerce:  The Chamber of Commerce held their annual Christmas Party on Tuesday, December 12th.

Ravenna Area Historical Society:  Minutes from the November 30, 2017 and also the October 19, 2017 meetings of the Ravenna Area Historical Society were reviewed.

Road Commission and Road update: Hoyle will attend the Road Commission meeting on Wednesday, December 20th.

New Business: Sherman presented the annual 5 year Road Maintenance Agreement from the Muskegon County Road Commission.  Motion by Patterson, support by Yonker to enter into the Road Maintenance Agreement, which is for a 5 year period.  Motion carried.  Street lights were discussed.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Sherman to have 3 to 4 street lights installed on Ravenna Road between Mortimer Road and the North driveway of the Ravenna Middle School.  Motion carried.  Sherman presented a budget update and everything looks good.

Unfinished Business:  None.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Yonker, support by Bonthuis to pay all bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

Other Board Comments: Ravenna Township will hold our annual Christmas luncheon on Tuesday, December 19th.

Public Comment: None.

Motion by Bonthuis, support by Patterson to adjourn meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
