RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES

February 11, 2016

The February meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Hall by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Maryde Housler. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle.  Members present were:  Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and Elmer Hoyle, Trustee.  Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley, and five residents.  Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve the Agenda with one addition (MTI sign).  Motion carried.  Motion by Patterson, support by Yonker to approve the minutes from the January 14, 2016 Regular Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.  Clerk Penny Sherman arrived at 7:10 due to the white-out basketball game.

Citizens Comments: None.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: Letter was received from the State regarding the 14 point review.

Fire Board:  Call report:  10 Medicals and 3 Fires (1 assist to Fruitport).  Fire Truck 1821 was discussed.  To replace the truck would cost approximately $275,000.00 to $350,000.00, to refurbish the truck would cost between $125,000.00 to $150,000.00 and to replace the pump in Fire Truck 1821 would cost approximately $15,525.00.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to replace the pump in Fire Truck 1821 for a price not to exceed $16,000.00.  Motion carried.   The Fire Department will be hosting the Fish Fry at St. Catherines Hall on Friday, March 4, 2016.  People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: 4 permits were issued (1 electrical, 2 mechanical and 1 plumbing).

Museum/Library: The new sign on the East side of the building is up and running.  Two children’s card tables with lego tops and additional legos have been purchased for the Library out of the donated funds.  The new temporary Librarians at the Library are doing a very good job.

Cemetery:  Everything is going fine.

Planning Commission: Did not meet.

Zoning Administrator:  Everything is going fine.

Chamber of Commerce: Hoyle, Patterson and Sherman attended the February 9th meeting along with ZA Lewis and new temporary librarian Jackie Baisden.

Ravenna Area Historical Society:  Will meet on March 17th.

Road Commission: The February 17th meeting of the Muskegon County Road Commission has been cancelled.

New Business: Brining was discussed.  We have received a quote from Michigan Chloride Sales, LLC (MCS) in the amount of approximately $11,000.00 and a quote from D& B for an amount of approximately $11,550.00.  Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to contract with MCS to brine for Ravenna Township this year.  Motion carried.  Jim Michels was present to discuss the noise, smell and extreme truck traffic that is occurring from Metal Technologies.  Mr. Michels would like to inquire about having onsite inspections and feels that there is no control over what is being emitted into the air.  Punter stated that a representative from Metal Technologies reported that the last report from the DEQ was clean.  Punter will arrange for a representative from the DEQ to attend a Township meeting to go over testing procedures involving Metal Technologies.  Metal Technologies would like the wording changed on their new sign that was installed by the MCRC and will pay for the changes.

Unfinished Business:  Motion by Hoyle, support by Patterson to take the Master Plan off the table for discussion.  Motion by Punter, support by Yonker to send the Master Plan back to the Planning Commission for revisions.  Motion carried.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

Motion by Patterson, support by Hoyle to change the March meeting date of the Ravenna Township Board to March 3, 2016 and the May meeting date of the Ravenna Township Board to May 5, 2016. Motion carried.

Sherman reported that the Ravenna Township Annual Dump Day has been scheduled for May 7, 2016 from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Presidential Primary Election will be held on March 8th.  There will be two separate ballots (Republican and Democrat) and you will have to declare which ballot you choose to vote.

The 2015 Plat Books are available at the Township office and cost $30.00.
