January 12, 2017

The January meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Office by Supervisor Elmer Hoyle. Pledge to the Flag was led by Bruce Yonker. Prayer was led by Supervisor Hoyle.  Members present were:  Elmer Hoyle, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and John Bonthuis, Trustee.  Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley, Librarian Katie Ames and 1 resident.  Motion by Yonker, support by Patterson to approve the Agenda.  Motion carried.  Motion by Bonthuis, support by Yonker to approve the minutes from the December 8, 2016 Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: Librarian Katie Ames introduced herself and stated that she will be sharing time between our Library and Muskegon Township Library.


Assessor: Four errors were corrected at the December Board of Review.

Fire Board:  Call report:  9 Medicals, 6 Fires (2 assists to Moorland and 1 was an assist to Coopersville).

There were 179 calls in 2016. The Annual Fire Department Bowling Fundraiser Tournament will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 and will consist of 2 shifts.  People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: Four permits were issued: 1 Building, 2 Electrical and 1 Mechanical.

Museum/Library: Everything is going well.  Our Library will be staffed with up to 4 different people.

Cemetery:  There were 17 burials in 2016 (11 full burials and 6 cremains burials).

Planning Commission: The Planning Commission did not meet in December, they will meet again on Monday, January 16, 2017.

Zoning Administrator:  No report.

Chamber of Commerce:  Sherman, Patterson and Hoyle attended.

Ravenna Area Historical Society: Everything is going fine.

Road Commission: Hoyle and Bonthuis met with MCRC to let them know that we are interested in getting a price regarding repairing Judson Road. Hoyle and Bonthuis also attended a Meeting and Open House at the Muskegon County Road Commission which was very informative. Sherman will send a letter to the MCRC inquiring what steps have been taken to find a solution for the 4 intersections of concern to alert drivers of stop signs.  Hoyle suggested that the township look into reforming a road committee to look into road options.

New Business: Board Appointments were discussed.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Patterson to appoint Julie Palma to the Board of Review.  Motion carried.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Bonthuis to appoint Jane Chandler to the Zoning Board of Appeals.  Motion carried.  Dates have all been corrected on the committee member’s rotation.

Unfinished Business:  The MCRC has been contacted regarding a solution to repair Judson Road.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Yonker, support by Bonthuis to pay all bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.   Patterson gave a Fire Department Budget update and stated that everything looks good.  Sherman gave a Township Budget update and stated that everything looks good.
