January 14, 2016

The January meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, January 14, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Brenda Moore. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle.  Members present were:  Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and Elmer Hoyle, Trustee.  Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley, Drain Commissioner Brenda Moore and five residents.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to approve the Agenda.  Motion carried.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Patterson to approve the minutes from the December 10, 2015 Regular Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: None.


Assessor: No report.

Fire Board:  Call report:  10 Medicals, 2 P.I.’s, 3 Wires Down and 3 Fires (1 assist to Casnovia).  There were 175 calls in 2015.  The Fire Department Bowling Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Ravenna Bowl and there will be 3 shifts of bowling.  People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: 4 permits were issued (2 building and 2 mechanical). MTS has sent a letter to the property owners on Seba Road and the permits have been updated.

Museum/Library: MADL is staffing our library with 2 permanent subs.  The new sign will be installed soon on the East side of the Library.

Cemetery:  Everything is going fine.   There were 36 total burials in Ravenna Township Cemetery in 2015.

Planning Commission: Did not meet.  The Planning Commission has submitted the Master Plan to the Township Board for review.

Zoning Administrator:  Everything is going fine.

Chamber of Commerce: Hoyle, Patterson and Sherman attended the January 12th meeting.

Ravenna Area Historical Society:  New cases are being ordered.  Security measures are being taken on the Caboose to prevent people from climbing on top.

Road Commission: Will meet on January 20th.  Road Commission will be replacing the sign that is missing on Cline Road.  Also the Road Commission will be installing a new sign stating the route to MTI at MTI’s expense.

New Business: Drain Commissioner Brenda Moore was present to discuss buffers that need to be 15 feet wide.  Other drain issues were discussed.

Unfinished Business:  Master Plan was discussed.  Punter asked the Board to table the Master Plan review until next month.  Motion by Punter, support by Yonker to table review of the Master Plan until our February 11, 2016 Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Patterson gave an update of the Fire Budget.  Sherman gave an update of the Township Budget.  Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

Public Comment:  Citizen stated that the noise coming from MTI is still bad, but the odor is better. MADL was discussed.

Presidential Primary Election will be held on March 8th.  There will be two separate ballots (Republican and Democrat) and you will have to declare which ballot you choose to vote.

The 2015 Plat Books are available at the Township office and cost $30.00.
