RAVENNA TOWNSHIP PUBLIC HEARING AND BOARD MEETING MINUTES
June 11, 2015
The June meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 7:04 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Township Attorney Mark VanAllsburg. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle. Members present were: Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Elmer Hoyle, Trustee; Bruce Yonker, Trustee; Fire Chief Greg Crowley; and 12 guests.
Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve Agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve the minutes from the June 8, 2015 Budget Workshop meeting. Motion carried.
Motion by Punter, support by Sherman to open the Public Hearing at 7:08 p.m. Motion Carried.
The purpose of this Public Hearing is A Notice of Hearing on Findings and Order of Hearing Officer regarding the property located at 12991 Harrisburg Road, Ravenna, MI 49451.
Homeowner of said property asked questions regarding his home and commented on the proposed action.
Christian Mullet, Attorney representing Wells Fargo Home Mortgage was present at this Public Hearing.
Supervisor stated that there is a safety concern with the installation of a new roof and the structure has to be inspected prior to a permit being issued due to the excessive exposure to weather elements that his home has incurred.
Public Hearing closed at 7:46 p.m.
A Resolution Approving Findings and Order of the Hearing Officer and Further ordering that the Building at 12991 Harrisburg Road be Demolished or Otherwise Made Safe was presented. Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to table resolution until the July 9, 2015 Ravenna Township Board Meeting to allow homeowner of said property to obtain the proper inspections. Motion carried.
Citizens Comments: Questions were asked regarding the Stafford Drain District.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Assessor: Tax roll has been rolled over for 2015. Treasurer has balanced with the Assessors.
Fire Board: Call report: 12 Medicals and 1 Fire (assist to Casnovia). Everything is going fine. People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits. Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.
Building Inspector: 11 permits were issued (6 building, 2 electrical, 2 plumbing and 1 mechanical).
Museum/Library: Everything is going great.
Cemetery: Larry had the Cemetery looking very Beautiful for the Memorial Day holiday.
Planning Commission: Planning Commission will meet on June 15, 2015 and hold a Public Hearing regarding one Special Use Application.
Zoning Administrator: Tony Zaidel has resigned effective June 30, 2015. A help wanted ad will be run in the Ravenna Independent and also placed on our website.
Chamber of Commerce: The Caboose will be here by the end of June.
Ravenna Area Historical Society: Patterson presented minutes from the RAHS Meeting that was held on May 21, 2015. The next RAHS meeting will be held on June 18, 2015.
Road Commission: Work on Ensley Road will be done this summer.
New Business: Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to amend the Ravenna Township Budget – Township Hall Office Supplies $1500.00. Motion carried. Attorney VanAllsburg will submit to Clerk Sherman the new required FOIA updates for adoption at the Ravenna Township Special Meeting to be held June 25, 2015. Motion by Patterson, support by Sherman to adopt the Ravenna Township Resolution to authorize spending above the maintenance limit of the County Drain code for the Stafford Drain not to exceed $1500.00. Motion carried.
Unfinished Business: A final copy of Ordinance No. 15-01 an Ordinance Regarding the Township Historical Commission has been signed.
Sherman stated that all the FEMA forms have been submitted and approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Patterson presented Treasurer’s report. Motion by Punter, support by Sherman to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.
Public Comment: MTI was discussed. MTI will notify if something out of the ordinary is going to occur. Resident complained that the blower noise has been terrible.

Ravenna Township will once again participate in the FREE DISPOSAL OF SCRAP TIRES EVENT along with Egelston, Moorland and Sullivan Townships. These events will be held on the following Saturdays: June 27th, July 25th and August 22nd from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at 4970 E. Apple Avenue, Muskegon.
Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to adjourn meeting. Meeting adjourned at 9:36 p.m.
