RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTESJune 12, 2014

The June meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Alan Jager.  Prayer was led by Trustee Hoyle.  Members present were:  Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Elmer Hoyle and Bruce Yonker Trustees; Greg Crowley, Fire Chief; Alan Jager, Candidate for 91st House of Representatives; Ben Gillette, Candidate for District 5 County Commissioner; and one resident.  Motion by Sherman, support by Yonker to approve Agenda with one Addition (2010 Census results).  Motion carried.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to approve Minutes from the Budget Workshop Meeting held June 9, 2014.  Motion carried.

Public Comments: None.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: Two new computers are up and running for the Assessors.

Fire Board: Call report: 8 Medicals, 4 Fires (2 assist to Moorland) and 3 Wires Down.  Updated proof of insurance from Fire Fighters are being collected.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Patterson to approve the recommendation from the Fire Department to accept a $4000.00 bid for the old tanker.  Motion carried.  Roof on the original Fire Station needs to be replaced.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to approve a bid of $11,931.00 from Ravenna Post Builders to replace the old roof on the original Fire Station.  Motion carried.  Ravenna Fire Department will be hosting a Pig Roast during Dog Daze on July 18th from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.  People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.  Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspectors (MTS): One Electrical has been issued for the month.

Museum/Library: Sidewalk has been completed.  Outside doors have been painted.  New planter has been installed and filled and looks beautiful.  New outside lights have been vandalized.  Novotny Electronics has been contacted regarding installing an outside security.

Cemetery: Memorial Day services went very well and the Cemetery looked wonderful.  Gate and fence have been repaired.  We would like to thank the Ravenna High School Softball team for painting the fence for their service project.

Planning Commission: Met on June 5, 2014.  Discussion was held regarding the steps and procedures for beginning to update the Ravenna Township Master Plan.  Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.

Zoning Administrator: One land division application is being processed.

Chamber of Commerce: Hoyle and Sherman attended. Chamber of Commerce will not meet in July.

New Business: Performance and Indemnification Resolution presented.  This resolution enables MCRC to issue a governmental body permits for use of Muskegon County roads or permits for miscellaneous operations within Muskegon County roads.  This resolution is needed because Ravenna Township is using a private company for brining this year.  Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve the Performance and Indemnification Resolution. Roll call vote taken: Sherman-Aye, Patterson-Aye, Hoyle-Aye, Yonker-Aye, Punter-Aye.  Motion carried.  Consolidated Fee Schedule was presented with the following changes:   Special Meeting of the Planning Commission-$350.00; Special Meeting of Zoning Board of Appeals-$350.00; Land Split/Division (performed by ZA and meets all zoning requirements-all others require special land use)-$50.00; Zoning Compliance Permit Application (reviewed by ZA before any permits are issued)-$25.00.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Patterson to approve Consolidated Fee Schedule.  Motion carried.  Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to amend the current Township Budget-$1000.00 Township Hall Operating Supplies.  Motion carried.   Census numbers are different than the population numbers on the State Shared Revenue report.  Census lists approximately 500 more people than the report.  An inquiring will be made to the state regarding this difference.

Unfinished Business: Public Hearing and Special Meeting of the Ravenna Township Board on the Budget for the 2014-2015 Fiscal Year will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

Treasurer’s Report: Patterson read Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Sherman to approve Treasurer’s report.  Motion carried.

Public Comment: Alan Jager was here to let everyone know he will be running as a No Party Affiliation Candidate for 91st House of Representatives.  Ben Gillette was here to let everyone know he will be running as a Democratic candidate for District 5 County Commissioner (which consists of all of Fruitport Charter Township, Ravenna Township and Sullivan Township).

Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to adjourn meeting at 8:20 p.m.  Motion carried.
