RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTESJune 14, 2018

 

The June meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Hall by Supervisor Elmer Hoyle. Pledge to the Flag was led by Trustee Bruce Yonker. Prayer was led by Treasurer Sonja Patterson.  Members present were:  Elmer Hoyle, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and John Bonthuis, Trustee.  Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley and three residents.  Motion by Bonthuis, support by Yonker to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.   Motion by Bonthuis, support by Yonker to approve the minutes from the May 17, 2018 meeting and the June 12, 2018 Budget Workshop Meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: None.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: Board of Review will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.  This BOR is only for clerical errors.

Fire Board:  Call report:  9 Medicals, 1 P.I. and 5 Fires (2 assists to Moorland).  Firefighter Doug Ferguson has resigned due to job commitments.  People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: Ten permits were issued:  5 Building, 3 Electrical, 1 Mechanical and 1 Plumbing.  The 10% reimbursement check from MTS was $22.50.

Museum/Library: The 2018 Summer Reading Club begins at our Library on Tuesday, June 19th at 10:30 a.m. and is held every Tuesday through July 31st.  A wish list of needed items for the Makerspace is available for anyone who would like to make a donation.

Cemetery:  The cemetery looked beautiful for the Memorial Day holiday.

Planning Commission: Did not meet.

Zoning Administrator:  Everything is going fine.

Chamber of Commerce: Sherman, Patterson and Hoyle attended the monthly Chamber of Commerce meeting. The Chamber will not meet in July.  The August Chamber luncheon and meeting will be held at the Ravenna Township Office.

Ravenna Area Historical Society:  Continuing to upload items on the computer.

Road Commission and Road update: The 4 new street lights have been installed on Ravenna Road starting just North of the Middle School drive continuing South past the school towards Mortimer Road. A resident that resides on Cline Road has asked the Township to get a price quote from the MCRC as to how much it would cost to lay asphalt on 4/10 of a mile on Cline Road west of Blackmer Road.

Senior Citizen’s Activity Coordinator:  The June luncheon was held at Thatcher Park with 35 people attending.

New Business: None.

Unfinished Business:  None.

Treasurer’s Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Yonker, support by Bonthuis to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

Other Board Comments: Brining has been completed in the Township.  Sherman has submitted the reimbursement paperwork to the DEQ for the Tire Grant.  The August Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 7th.

 

Correspondence:  A thank you was received from the family of Gerrie Tensen.

 

Public Comment: A question regarding open septic tanks in a neighboring jurisdiction was asked, but the resident was told they should contact the Health Department with this issue.

 

Motion by Patterson, support by Bonthuis to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
