RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES

June 9, 2016

The June meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Hall by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Republican Muskegon County Sheriff Candidate Dennis E. Luce. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle.  Members present were:  Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and Elmer Hoyle, Trustee.  Also present were Republican Muskegon County Sheriff Candidate Dennis E. Luce, 60th District Court Judge Candidate Geoffrey T. Nolan, 3 residents and 1 guest.  Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve the Agenda.  Motion carried.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Sherman to approve the minutes from the May 5, 2016 Regular Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: Republican Muskegon County Sheriff Candidate Dennis E. Luce introduced himself to the Township Board and everyone in attendance.  Dennis was born and raised in Ravenna and served in the Military before joining the Ottawa County Sheriff Department.  Dennis would like to see the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department reach its full potential.  60th District Court Judge Candidate Geoffrey T. Nolan also introduced himself.  He has practiced law in Muskegon County for 15 years.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: Everything is going fine.

Fire Board:  Call report:  7 Medicals, 4 P.I.’s and 3 Fires (1 assist to Moorland Township and 1 assist to Olive Township).  New Pumper has been reconditioned and is working well.  People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: Six permits were issued: 3 Building, 2 Electrical and 1 Mechanical.

Museum/Library: Everything is going well.  The Summer Reading Program will be held on Tuesday at our Library and will begin this Tuesday, June 14th at 10:30 a.m.  Richard Snider and Brenda Hall recently visited the Township to discuss the upcoming MADL millage request.  The Ravenna Library is featured in the MADL newspaper that is being distributing around the area.

Cemetery:  Cemetery Sexton Larry Darcy had the Ravenna Township Cemetery looking beautiful for the Memorial Day Holiday and the Ravenna Township Board would like to thank him.

Planning Commission: The Planning Commission met on Monday, May 16, 2016.  They will hold a Public Hearing and Meeting on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

Zoning Administrator:  Everything is going fine.

Chamber of Commerce:  The Chamber of Commerce will meet on Tuesday, June 14, 2016.

Ravenna Area Historical Society:  No report.  The Garden Path has planted flowers at the Library that look beautiful.

Road Commission: Hoyle attended the Muskegon County Road Commission meeting.

New Business: Patterson presented the Fire Budget for review.  Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to amend the Fire Budget Capital Outlay $8,093.72 which will be amended from Payroll-$6,773.81, Supplies-$1,045.65 and Building Repairs-$274.26.  Motion carried.  Sherman presented the Ravenna Township General Fund Budget.  Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to amend the Ravenna Township General Fund Budget $11,261.39:  Legislative-Legal Fees $2,942.69; Cemetery-Wages $434.00; Cemetery-Operating Expense-$506.33; Cemetery-Professional Services $1,440.00; Cemetery-Repairs/Maintenance $586.30; Community Services-Memorial Day $329.04; Community Services-Dump Day/Scrap Tire $3,381.30; Museum/Library-Library Donation Purchases $882.73; and Museum Library-Maintenance Employee $759.00.  All amendments are available from the Ravenna Township Fund Balance.  Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:  None.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

Public Comment: None.

Sherman stated that anyone who would like to vote by Absentee Ballot in the upcoming August 2, 2016 Primary Election and meets the requirements may request an Absentee Ballot Application which must be submitted prior to being issued an Absentee Ballot.
