RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES
March 12, 2015
The March meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Maryde Housler. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle. Members present were: Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Elmer Hoyle, Trustee; Bruce Yonker, Trustee; 3 residents; and 2 guests. Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to approve Agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Yonker, support by Patterson to approve the minutes from the February 12, 2015 meeting. Motion carried.
Citizens Comments: Resident complained that the noise at MTI was very loud and could be heard inside their home to the extent that they could barely talk above it. Also the truck traffic from MTI has been very heavy. Resident also questioned if permits have been pulled for work being done to a residence on Adams Road.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Assessor: Board of Review went very well. Thirteen appeals were heard, which is less than 1% of Township Residents. The Township Board would like to thank the members of the Board of Review for the great job that they do.
Fire Board: Call report: 6 Medicals and 1 Fires (assist to Casnovia). The Firemen worked the Fish Fry on March 6th and netted approximately $2000.00 and about 500 people attended. People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits. Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.
Building Inspector: 2 permits were issued (1 building and 1 mechanical).
Museum/Library: Fireplace has been repaired. Library is celebrating March is Reading Month by having a contest and winner will receive a blanket.
Cemetery: Sherman will call West Michigan Burial regarding a sunken grave.
Planning Commission: Next Planning Commission Meeting will be Monday, March 16, 2015.
Zoning Administrator: No report.
Chamber of Commerce: Hoyle, Patterson and Sherman attended.
Ravenna Area Historical Society: First meeting will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. All meetings will be held at the Museum.
Road Commission: The bill from the repair to the Seba Road culvert has been received.
A Public Hearing was held on March 12, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. The purpose of this Public Hearing was in regards to a dangerous and unsafe building in violation of the Township of Ravenna Building Code and in violation of the Housing Law of Michigan. The Hearing Officer has 5 days to render a decision.
New Business: Bob Chapla and Mary Kotecki from the Muskegon County Community Foundation were here to present a new program regarding Cemetery Perpetual Care funds. The Township will look further into this option. Sherman has completed the paperwork required for the FEMA Floodplain and is now waiting to hear back from FEMA. Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to table the FEMA Floodplain until next month. Motion carried. Brining was discussed. A quote from D&B Brining and a quote from the Muskegon County Road Commission were reviewed. The quote from D&B Brining was approximately $9461.21 less than the MCRC quote. Motion by Patterson, support by Yonker to use D&B Brining for brining this year with the possibility of doing a 2nd brining. Motion carried. The Township will send a letter of support to Crockery Township regarding the expansion of the North Bank Trail.
Unfinished Business: Historical Society was discussed. The Township Board went through the By-Laws and the Ordinance created for the Ravenna Area Historical Society and changes were made. The Historical Society will look over the changes and let us know what they think at our next meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: Patterson presented Treasurer’s report. Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried. Our website address is www.ravennatwp.com.
Correspondence: The Annual Ravenna Township Dump Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 7:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Livestock Sale parking lot. Padno’s will also be there for any scrap metal collection and all proceeds from the scrap metal collection will be used to offset the cost of Dump Day.
Public Comment: A resident wanted to let everyone know there will be a meeting regarding Common Core on March 24, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Assembly God Church in Muskegon.
