RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES

March 8, 2018

 

The March meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Hall by Supervisor Elmer Hoyle. Pledge to the Flag was led by Fire Chief Greg Crowley. Prayer was led by Supervisor Hoyle.  Members present were:  Elmer Hoyle, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk and John Bonthuis, Trustee.  Trustee Bruce Yonker was absent.  Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley and one resident.  Motion by Bonthuis, support by Hoyle to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.   Motion by Bonthuis, support by Patterson to approve the minutes from the February 8, 2018 meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: None.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: The organizational meeting for the March Board of Review was held on Tuesday, March 6th.  The March Board of Review will be held on March 12th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and March 13th from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Fire Board:  Call report:  12 Medicals, 2 Fires and 1 P.I.  Brian Mann is taking the state test for his medical license.  The Fire Department is hosting the fish fry on Friday, March 9th at St. Catherine’s Hall.  A fit tester for the fire protection masks is being purchased by multiple fire departments and the cost to our fire department will be approximately $1,248.00.   People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: The 10% reimbursement check from MTS was $45.00.

Museum/Library: The inside door at the library needs to be repaired.  Bonthuis will check the door and see what repairs need to be done.

Cemetery:  Everything is going fine.

Planning Commission: The Planning Commission held a Public Hearing and Meeting on February 19th for two special use applications.  An application from Kurt Dufendach to open a fertilizing distributorship was approved.  An application from Jacob Bonthuis to open a distillery was tabled and another Public Hearing and Meeting for this application will be held on Monday, March 19th at 7:00 p.m.

Zoning Administrator:   Everything is going fine.

Chamber of Commerce:  The next Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 13th.

Ravenna Area Historical Society:  Everything is going fine.

Road Commission and Road update: Hoyle attended the Road Commission meeting. At this meeting they stated that the work on Heights Ravenna Road should be completed the week of March 12th.

Senior Citizen’s Activity Coordinator:  Sherman reported that the senior luncheon held at the Ravenna Fire Station went very well with 34 people attending.

New Business: Jill Bonthuis, Executive Director for Pioneer Resources was present to discuss the grant that Pioneer Resources received from the Senior Millage that was passed in August, 2016. Their grant was approved to cover the cost of transportation and some of the activity costs for Muskegon County residents, focusing their attention to the East end of the County. The Ravenna Township Board thanked Jill for all of her hard work for applying for and receiving this grant for our area.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Bonthuis to approve a request from the Seventh-Day Adventist Church to allow the Family Health and Education Resources ministry to be in our area from June 3rd-August 11th.  Motion carried.  Brine bids were discussed.  Last year the Township used MCS for brine services and we were not completely satisfied with the work that was done.  Motion by Patterson, support by Hoyle to contract with the Muskegon County Road Commission for brine services this year at a cost of $22,295.00.  Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:  None.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Bonthuis, support by Sherman to pay all bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

Other Board Comments: Sherman reported that Ravenna Township has received a Tire Recycle Grant for this year and the Tire Recycle event will run concurrent with our Annual Dump Day which will be held on Saturday, May 5th from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Livestock Sale parking lot.  This event is for Ravenna Township residents only and ID’s will be checked.  The Muskegon County Drain Commissioner will be holding Meeting of Board Determination regarding the Norris Creek Drain at Sullivan Township on Wednesday, March 14th at 6:30 p.m.   The Drain Commissioner should have sent notices to all property owners in this drain district.

Motion by Bonthuis, support by Patterson to adjourn meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
