RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTESMarch 9, 2017

The March meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Office by Supervisor Elmer Hoyle. Pledge to the Flag was led by Trustee John Bonthuis. Prayer was led by Supervisor Elmer Hoyle.  Members present were:  Elmer Hoyle, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and John Bonthuis, Trustee.  Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley, Librarian Katie Ames, 2 residents and 1 guest.  Motion by Yonker, support by Bonthuis to approve the Agenda.  Motion carried.  Motion by Patterson, support by Yonker to approve the minutes from the February 9, 2017 Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.

 

Citizens Comments: None

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: The Board of Review held their organizational meeting on March 7, 2017.  The March Board of Review will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.
Fire Board:  Call report:  9 Medicals, 1 P.I., 4 Fires (1 assist to Marne and 2 assists to Egelston) and 1 Wires Down.  The whole inside of Truck 1821 is rotted out.  A price of $20,000.00 has been received from Ruchs Welding to build a new tank for the truck. The cost of a Poly tank would be $36,000.00.  Motion by Yonker, support by Bonthuis to have Ruchs build a new tank for Truck 1821 at a cost of $20,000.00.  Motion carried. People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: 1 Building and 1 Mechanical permits were issued this month.

Museum/Library: Katie Ames reported that the Library is weeding out old books that are no longer being checked out.  There will be a large book sale put on by the Friends of the Library soon.  A new Library Page has been hired and will work at the library approximately 10 hours a week.  Ants have been spotted in the back room.  The Township will contact Terminx to take care of this problem.  A problem patron has been asked to leave the library twice and now this situation is going to be handled through administration.

 

Cemetery:  Cemetery Sexton Larry Darcy will be repairing the chain link fence that was damaged due to the strong winds.

Planning Commission: The Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing and meeting on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. There are three Special Use applications on the agenda.

 

Zoning Administrator:  Everything is going fine.

Chamber of Commerce:  Monthly Chamber of Commerce luncheon and meeting will be Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

Ravenna Area Historical Society: The RAHS will begin redoing their by-laws.

 

Road Commission: Hoyle will be attending the Road Commission meeting on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

New Business: Brad Harkness from MCL (Michigan Chloride Sales) was present to discuss brining.  MCL did the brining in our Township last year.   Motion by Patterson, support by Bonthuis to go with MCL for brining this year and the they would use 2500 gallons per mile.  Motion carried.  The brining is scheduled to begin on June 7th.  The Township will look into rather a second brine is needed during the summer.  The township company machine is 10 years old and needs to be replaced.  The machine is still working and would service the Fire Department well due to the fact that they do not use it as often.  The price of the copy machine that we would like to purchase is $3500.00 but if paid within 10 days a 2% discount would be applied.  The new machine could send multiple page scans as well as do colored copying.  Motion by Patterson, support by Sherman to purchase a copy machine for the Township office at the price of $3430.00 after the discount.  Motion carried.

 

Unfinished Business:  The MCRC should soon have a repair estimate for Judson Road.

 

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Bonthuis to pay all bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.   Patterson reported that the 2016 Tax settlement has taken place and everything was in balance.

 

Public Comment: None

 

Other Board Comment: Sherman stated that the Annual Township Dump Day and Tire Recycle will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Sherman gave an updated Budget report.  Everything was in line and no amendments were needed at this time.

Motion Yonker, support by Bonthuis to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 8:36 p.m.
