RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES

May 5, 2016

The May meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Hall by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by MATS Director Corey Davis.  Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle.  Members present were:  Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and Elmer Hoyle, Trustee.  Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley, MATS Director Corey Davis and two residents.  Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve the Agenda.  Motion carried.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to approve the minutes from the April 14, 2016 Regular Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: None.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: Everything is going fine.

Fire Board:  Call report:  5 Medicals, 2 P.I.’s, 9 Fires (1 assist to Casnovia) and 1 Wires Down.  Twenty-two pagers have been purchased for a cost of $8400.00 which includes the programming module and programmer.  The parts are in to repair Pumper 1821.  People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: MTS called and wants direction regarding reroofing on the Zoning Compliance form.

Museum/Library: Everything is going fine.

Cemetery:  Trees have been purchased for the Cemetery.

Planning Commission: The Planning Commission will meet on Monday, May 16, 2016.

Zoning Administrator:  Everything is going fine.

Chamber of Commerce:  The Chamber of Commerce will meet on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.

Ravenna Area Historical Society:  Met on April 21, 2016.

Road Commission: Hoyle reported that MCRC has been watching Ensley Road to make sure the new drainage is holding up.

New Business: MATS Director Corey Davis was present to discuss the bus use for Ravenna.  MATS has seen increased ridership since beginning the service in 2014.  We are offered bus service Monday through Thursday each week.  They are trying to grow the program and encourage people to ride the bus.  The standard fee is $2.50 and $1.25 for Senior Citizens and Handicap.  MATS would like to hold a “How to Ride” session to teach residents how to ride the bus and where the stops are at.  The Ravenna Township Budget Workshop will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 5:30 p.m.  The Public Hearing and Adoption of the Budget will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.  Letter from the Muskegon County Recreational Partnership was discussed.  Motion by Punter, support by Sherman to send a letter of support and to have Elmer Hoyle be our representative for the Recreational Partnership Committee.   Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:  The Ravenna Township Annual Dump Day and Scrap Tire Event will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  Pando’s will be present to collect any scrap metal.  Goodwill will also be present for collection of items.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Sherman, support by Yonker to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

Sherman gave an update of Ravenna Township General Fund Budget and no amendments were needed.

Public Comment: None.
