RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES

November 12, 2015

The November meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Jim Michels.  Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle.  Members present were:  Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Elmer Hoyle, Trustee; and Bruce Yonker, Trustee.    Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley and two residents.  Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve the Agenda.  Motion carried.  Motion by Patterson, support by Hoyle to approve the minutes from the October 8, 2015 Regular Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments:  None.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor:  Board of Review will be held on December 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.  This Board of Review session is only for errors and omissions.

Fire Board:  Call report:  11 Medicals and 5 Fires (1 assist to Casnovia and 1 assist to Moorland).    The Fire Department Open House was very well attended!  Patterson presented a Fire Department Budget update.  Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to amend the following Fire Department Budget line items:  Insurance-$226.76 and Equipment-$4.84 both amendments will be taken from the Building Fund line item.  Motion carried.  THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING AND CAROLING WILL BE HELD AT THE COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS TREE LOCATED EAST OF THE LINCK INSURANCE PARKING LOT ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6TH at 6:00 p.m. SANTA CLAUS WILL BE MAKING A SPECIAL APPEARANCE!!!!!!!!

People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: 8 permits were issued (5 building and 3 mechanical).

Museum/Library:  There was a neat Star Wars Program on Tuesday, November 10th that was sponsored by MADL.  The Friends of the Library will be holding a Taste of the Holidays on Saturday, November 14th from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.  The Friends of the Library will also be holding a showing of the movie “A Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving” on Tuesday, November 17th at 3:30 p.m.  We would like to thank the Beechnau/Thieme Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County for the new digital sign that they have purchased for the East outside wall of the Library.

Cemetery:  A new bagger has been ordered for the Cyclone leaf rake.

Planning Commission:  Planning Commission will meet on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.

Zoning Administrator:  The Zoning Administrator computer is having issues.

Chamber of Commerce: Hoyle, Patterson and Sherman attended.  The Chamber of Commerce Christmas Party will be held on December 8th at Moss Ridge.

Ravenna Area Historical Society:  The Caboose is 100  years old and use to run through Ravenna.

Road Commission:  Punter, Hoyle, Patterson and Sherman attended that Annual Roadkill Banquet.

New Business:  Adoption of the Master Plan was discussed.  Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to approve Resolution 15-07 a Resolution to Assert Township Board Right to Approve or Reject Township Master Plan.  Roll call vote taken:  Yonker-Aye, Hoyle-Aye, Patterson-Aye, Sherman-Aye, Punter-Aye.  Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:  None.

Sherman presented a Ravenna Township Budget Update.

Treasurers Report:  Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Motion by Yonker support by Hoyle to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

The millage request by MADL failed in Ravenna Township 193-123 with an approximate 15% voting turnout.

Public Comment:  Telephone installation was discussed.
