RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES
November 13, 2014
The November meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Bill Leszinske. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle. Members present were: Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Elmer Hoyle and Bruce Yonker, Trustees; also present were Mark VanAllsburg, Township Attorney; Greg Crowley, Fire Chief and 12 residents/guests. Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to approve the Agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve minutes from the October 9, 2014 Township Board Meeting and the November 3, 2014 Special Township Board Meeting. Motion carried.
Citizens Comments: None.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Assessor: December Board of Review will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 1:00 and is for errors and omissions only.
Fire Board: Call report: 11 Medicals, 1 P.I. and 4 Fires. Truck purchased from Casnovia Fire Department has been received. The 12 new sets of turn-out gear that we purchased has arrived and the rest will be purchased next year. People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits. Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.
Building Inspector: 2 permits were issued (1 building and 1 mechanical).
Museum/Library: Sherman has submitted the yearly report to MADL. Friends of the Library will hold a Chocolate night at the Library on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Cemetery: Everything is going well.
Planning Commission: Planning Commission met on October 20, 2014.
Zoning Administrator: No report.
Chamber of Commerce: Met on November 11, 2014 and Hoyle, Punter and Sherman attended. Chamber Christmas Party will be December 9, 2014.
Road Commission: Township held a Special Meeting to discuss the Muskeogn County Road Commissions Road/Right-of-Way abandonment of the last 600 feet of Rollenhagen Road. The Township sent a letter to the Road Commission requesting that Ravenna Township gain ownership of this property as this will allow residents to use it as a footpath.
New Business: Historical Society-Much discussion was held regarding rather the Historical Society is an independent entity or a part of Ravenna Township. It was decided that the Historical Society has always been a part of Ravenna Township and will remain so. Motion by Hoyle, support by Patterson to have our Attorney draft a letter of understanding between the Historical Society and Ravenna Township. Motion carried. Caboose-The caboose has been purchased by the Historical Society through a joint funding project. Patterson will call the insurance company and place insurance on the Caboose. Resident Jim Michels was present to discuss a noise issue with Metal Technologies. Michels will meet on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 with Punter and Zoning Administrator Tony Zaidel to discuss the noise problem. Resolution 14-11-13 a Resolution Authorizing The Use Of A Computerized Data Base As The Tax Roll was presented. Motion by Hoyle, support by Punter to adopt Resolution 14-11-13. Roll call vote: Yonker-Aye, Hoyle-Aye, Punter-Aye, Patterson-Aye, Sherman-Aye. Motion carried.
Unfinished Business: Budget updates were presented: Patterson reported on the Fire Department Budget. Motion by Patterson, support by Punter to amend Capital Outlay by $1,030.96 from Payroll for the purchase of 12 sets of turn-out gear. Sherman presented the Township Budget.
Treasurer’s Report: Patterson presented Treasurer’s report. Motion by Hoyle, support by Sherman to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.
Township has received one bid for snowplowing and will get one more bid before a decision is made.
Public Comment: Larry Darcy said that the cemetery fence is getting repaired. Residents complimented Attorney Mark VanAllsburg.
Motion by Punter, support by Hoyle to adjourn. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m.
