RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES

October 13, 2016

The October meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Office by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Jim Michels. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle.  Members present were:  Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and Elmer Hoyle, Trustee.  Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley, and 3 residents.  Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve the Agenda.  Motion carried.  Motion by Patterson, support by Yonker to approve the minutes from the September 8, 2016 Township Board Meeting.  Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: None.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assessor: No report.

Fire Board:  Call report:  4 Medicals, 2 P.I.’s and 4 Fires (1 assist to Moorland and 2 assists to Casnovia).  Doug Ferguson and Brian Mann have started the Fire Fighter I and Fire Fighter II classes.   The Fire Prevention Open House with a Special Appearance by Smoky Bear was very well attended.  People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: Seven permits were issued: 1 Building, 4 Electrical, 1 Plumbing and 1 Mechanical.

Museum/Library: New decorations have been placed in the Library, which look very beautiful.  The Friends of the Library will be starting a Book Club on November 1st.

Cemetery:  A few new trees have been planted in the Cemetery.

Planning Commission: The Planning Commission will meet on Monday, October 17, 2016.

Zoning Administrator:  Everything is going fine.

Chamber of Commerce:  Sherman, Hoyle and Patterson attended the Chamber meeting that was held on October 11, 2016.

Ravenna Area Historical Society: The Girl Scouts held an exhibition Open House to reveal their display case that they have created in the Museum. It was stated that the Girl Scouts did a very good job with the display case.

Road Commission: Hoyle is waiting to hear back from the Road Commission regarding the safety concerns of some of the intersections in our Township.

New Business: None.

Unfinished Business:  None.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report.  Patterson presented bills which included the following Fire Department bills:  Fire Department Payroll of $52,047.60, twenty new helmets for $6,516.25 and a reimbursement for Fire Prevention supplies of $1,272.40.  Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to pay all bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Motion carried.

Public Comment: The disbursement of the Senior Services Millage was discussed. It was suggested that the Township Board contact a representative of the Senior Services and have them come to one of our meetings so that questions can be answered regarding the disbursement of the millage.

Correspondence: None.

Clerk Penny Sherman stated that 317 Absentee Ballots have already been issued for upcoming November 8, 2016 General Election.
