September 10, 2015

The September meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Marlene Curtis. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle. Members present were: Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Elmer Hoyle, Trustee; and Bruce Yonker, Trustee. Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley and 4 guests. Motion by Patterson, support by Yonker to approve the Agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Patterson, support by Hoyle to approve the minutes from the August 13, 2015 Regular Township Board Meeting. Motion carried.

Citizens Comments: None


Assessor: Assessor Jerry Groeneveld has retired. Assessor Dennis Burns will be staying on. Mr. Burns has suggested that we contract with Dan Joslyn, former Muskegon County Deputy Treasurer to replace Mr. Groeneveld. Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to contract with Dan Joslyn as long as he acquires his Level 1 Assessor’s license. Motion carried.

Fire Board: Call report: 5 Medicals and 1 P.I. Fire Prevention Open House will be Tuesday, October 13th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Smokey Bear will be present and donuts & cider will be served. The generator has been serviced. People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.   Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.

Building Inspector: 2 permits were issued (1 building and 1 electrical).

Museum/Library: Story Hour at the library for the children begins this Tuesday.

Cemetery: All ornamentation must be removed by October 1st.   Jeff Sickles of Sickles Consulting has recently added the cemetery map to our website. Our website address is: www.ravennatwp.com.

Planning Commission: Planning Commission met on August 17, 2015 to work on the Master Plan.

Zoning Administrator: Zoning Administrator Anne Lewis recently attended a conference regarding Zoning issues.

Chamber of Commerce: Sherman and Hoyle attended the Chamber meeting.

Ravenna Area Historical Society: Everything is going fine.

Road Commission: Hoyle attended the Road Commission meeting and the work on Ensley Road should be completed this week. Work on Ellis Road has been completed.

New Business: A request has been made to allow a 54” marker be placed on a double grave in the cemetery. Motion by Patterson, support by Sherman to allow the 54” marker be placed in the cemetery on the double grave. Motion carried.

Unfinished Business: The property at 12991 Harrisburg Road has been inspected by 2 inspectors from MTS and Punter and Hoyle also were present for the inspections. The structure appears to be sound.

Treasurers Report: Patterson presented Treasurer’s report. Motion by Sherman support by Patterson to pay bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.

Public Comment: Noah Moran was present at our meeting and inquired on different topics.
