RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES
September 8, 2016
The September meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ravenna Township Office by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by John Bonthuis. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle. Members present were: Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Bruce Yonker, Trustee and Elmer Hoyle, Trustee. Also present were Fire Chief Greg Crowley, and 4 residents. Motion by Yonker, support by Hoyle to approve the Agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to approve the minutes from the August 11, 2016 Township Board Meeting. Motion carried.
Citizens Comments: None.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Assessor: Everything is going fine.
Fire Board: Call report: 11 Medicals and 1 Fires. Doug Ferguson and Brian Mann will be beginning the Fire Fighter I and Fire Fighter II classes. Fire Prevention Open House with a Special Appearance by Smoky Bear will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Twenty-two new pagers have been purchased and new helmets have been ordered. The old pagers have been sold. People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits. Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.
Building Inspector: Six permits were issued: 2 Building and 4 Mechanical.
Museum/Library: Muskegon Area District Librarian Jackie Baisden has taken a permanent position at a different branch and MADL will be hiring a permanent Librarian for our branch.
Cemetery: Security measures were discussed. All ornamentation needs to be removed by October 1, 2016.
Planning Commission: The Planning Commission held a Public Hearing and Meeting on August 15, 2016 and approved a Special Use Application for an in-home business.
Zoning Administrator: No report.
Chamber of Commerce: The Chamber of Commerce will meet on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
Ravenna Area Historical Society: Girl Scouts are finishing up creating a showcase for the Museum.
Road Commission: Hoyle met with Ken Hulka and an Engineer from the Road Commission to discuss intersections that we are concerned about. The Road Commission is going to look into a solution to increase safety at these intersections.
New Business: Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to change the Proposed Revenue Total line to read $518,080.00 from the incorrect amount of $517,080.00. Motion carried. Sherman gave an update of the Ravenna Township Budget and everything is in order.
Unfinished Business: None.
Treasurer’s Report: Patterson presented the Treasurer’s report. A bill of $4,508.55 to pay for 22 pairs of boots for the Fire Department was presented. Motion by Sherman, support by Hoyle to pay all bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.
Public Comment: Carol Church, organizer for the Senior Luncheons spoke about the winter road conditions from Maple Island to the Village limit. Mrs. Church will be contacting Mr. Hulka to ask him to speak at an upcoming Senior Luncheon.
Correspondence: None.
Ballots have been ordered for the November 8, 2016 General Election. Anyone who needs an absentee ballot for the election and qualifies to receive one please contact Clerk Penny Sherman at 231-853-6205.
It was suggested to contact Agewell to see if they can attend a Township Meeting to discuss how funds are going to be used from the Services for Seniors Millage.
