RAVENNA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES
September, 2014
The September meeting of the Ravenna Township Board was called to order on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Ken Punter. Pledge to the Flag was led by Fire Chief Greg Crowley. Prayer was led by Trustee Elmer Hoyle. Members present were: Ken Punter, Supervisor; Sonja Patterson, Treasurer; Penny Sherman, Clerk; Elmer Hoyle Trustee; Bruce Yonker, Trustee; and Greg Crowley, Fire Chief. Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to approve Agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to approve minutes from the August 14, 2014 Meeting. Motion carried.
Citizens Comments: None.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Assessor: Possible IFT application was discussed.
Fire Board: Call report: 8 Medicals, 4 P.I.’s and 2 Fires. Fire Prevention Open House with an appearance by Smokey Bear will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Fire Department participated in the Sportsmen for Youth that was held on September 6th. Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to contact Casnovia Fire Department about the possibility of purchasing their Tanker truck. People interested in a burn permit may go the web site: www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits. Address signs are available to purchase for $20.00, if anyone is interested they should call the Township Hall at 231-853-6205.
Building Inspector: 9 permits were issued (5 building, 2 electrical,1 mechanical and 1 plumbing).
Museum/Library: Everything is going great.
Cemetery: Leaf blower is being repaired. Washed out road in cemetery has been repaired. Letter was received from Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Services about possible reimbursement of damages due to the April 12th storm. All Spring and Summer ornamentation must be removed on or before October 1st.
Planning Commission: Met on September 8, 2014 to work on updating the Master Plan. Beginning in October, the Planning Commission will start holding their meetings on the 3rd Monday of the month.
Zoning Administrator: In the process of notifying some property owners that clean-up needs to be done on their property.
Chamber of Commerce: Punter, Hoyle, Patterson and Sherman attended.
Road Commission: Replacement of the culvert on Seba Road has been completed. Punter spoke with Hulka regarding the quality of grading that is being done on our roads. Cline road was discussed. Brining cost the Township $12,496.07 this year which is a savings of $7,438.52 from the previous year.
New Business: Township office hours were discussed. We feel it would serve the public more to be open earlier in the morning. Motion by Patterson, support by Sherman to approve the following Township office hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Motion carried. Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to continue with: Banks-Choice One, Fifth Third and Wells Fargo; Attorney-Mika, Meyers, Beckett and Jones PLC; Auditor-Brickley DeLong, Certified Public Accounts; Publications-Ravenna Independent; Insurance-Western Insurance Agency and Accident Fund; and Inspectors-Michigan Township Services. Motion carried. Peacock and Wagner have agreed to extend their terms on the Planning Commission that expired this year. Motion by Patterson, support by Sherman to approve the following Township Holidays: New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Friday before Memorial Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Friday before Labor Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve Day. Motion carried. Sherman presented a PA116 application from Alan and Deborah Koppenol. Motion by Sherman, support by Patterson to approve the Koppenol PA116 application. Motion carried. Now this application will be sent on to the other reviewing agencies.
Unfinished Business: None.
Treasurer’s Report: Patterson presented Treasurer’s report. Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to pay D & B Brine, Inc. in the amount of $10,725.00 for their portion of the brining, and TS Max $5,654.00 for the Township sidewalk. Motion carried. Motion by Hoyle, support by Yonker to pay all remaining bills and accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.
Other Township Comment: Punter read a letter from Joan Raap, Egelston Township Clerk thanking Penny Sherman for planning and working at the 2014 Scrap Tire Recycling project.
The Ravenna Township Board would like to thank Ken Montgomery for all of his help placing rock and cleaning up around the Township Hall.
