RAVENNA TOWNSHIP PLANNING COMMISSION
PUBLIC HEARING AND MEETING
MINUTES
March 19, 2018
A Public Hearing and Meeting of the Ravenna Township Planning Commission were called to order on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 7:00 by Chairman Jack Link. Members present were: Roger Peacock, Stan Wagner and Bruce Yonker. Also present were Zoning Administrator Anne Lewis, Recording Secretary Penny Sherman and 4 guests. Planning Commission member Mike Gillard was absent. Pledge to the flag was said.
Motion by Peacock to open the Public Hearing at 7:05 p.m., support by Wagner. Motion carried. Chairman Link dismissed himself at this time due to his relationship to the Special Use applicant.
Purpose of the Public Hearing was to re-present and discuss a Special Use Application from Jacob Bonthuis to open a distillery.
The property is owned by Averill Properties LLC and located at 2600 S. Slocum Road, Ravenna, MI 49451. Jacob Bonthuis has applied for and been approved for the federal permits that are needed to open a distillery and that he has been approved to hold up to 2000 gallons but only has a 50 gallon vat at this time and is only currently making 20 gallons twice a month. Jacob explained that he needs approval of the Special Use Application that has been applied for to move forward to get state approval to sell the liquor to three state approved vendors. Members of the Planning Commission have now toured the facility. If approval of the Special Use Application is received then the facility will have to be inspected by the Health Department. He stated that he will have to seal the cement and also paint the walls with high epoxy paint.
Public Hearing closed at 7:07 p.m.
Vice Chairman Peacock reopened the meeting.
Motion by Wagner, support by Yonker to approve the minutes from the Public Hearing and Meeting that was held on February 19, 2018. Motion carried. Motion by Yonker, support by Wagner to approve the Agenda. Motion carried.
Citizen’s Comments: Resident stated that zoning plays a big part in deciding if a building can be built.
New Business: None.
Unfinished Business: Motion by Yonker, support by Wagner to take off the table and discuss the Special Use Application from Jacob Bonthuis that was tabled at the Planning Commission meeting held on February 19, 2018. Motion carried. Special Use Application from Jacob Bonthuis to open a distillery was discussed. Motion by Yonker, support by Wagner to approve the Special Use Application from Jacob Bonthuis to open a distillery. Motion carried

Motion by Peacock, support by Yonker to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
