RAVENNA TOWNSHIP PLANNING COMMISSION

PUBLIC HEARING AND MEETING

MINUTES

August 15, 2016

 

A Public Hearing and Meeting of the Ravenna Township Planning Commission were called to order on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 7:00 by Chairman Jack Link.  Members present were: Link, Roger Peacock, Mike Gillard, Bruce Yonker, Stan Wagner, Zoning Administrator Anne Lewis, Recording Secretary Penny Sherman and 4 residents were in attendance. Pledge to the flag was led by Chairman Link.

Motion by Link to open the Public Hearing at 7:00 p.m., support by Peacock. Motion carried.

Purpose of the Public Hearing was to present and discuss a Special Use Application from Debra Karr requesting to open a hair salon in her home. The property for the Special Use Application is owned by Michael Karr and is located at 2824 S. Slocum Rd, Ravenna, MI.

Debra Karr fielded questions regarding opening a hair salon in her home. Parking will not be a problem because there is ample space.  Debra Karr is a licensed cosmetologist.  Her license is up to date.

Public Hearing closed at 7:12 p.m.

Chairman Link reopened the meeting – Minutes from the June 20, 2016 were approved as presented. Agenda was approved as presented.

Citizens Comment: None.

New Business: Special Use Application from Debra Karr was discussed. Motion by Gillard, support by Wagner to approve Special Use Application by Debra Karr to open and operate a hair salon in her home contingent that it is opened for up to 5 days a week and that she is the only hairstylist.  Also a sign must be placed in the parking lot stating that cars may not back out onto the road.  Motion carried.

Unfinished Business: None.

ZA Anne Lewis will send letters to homeowners on a private road regarding changing their addresses due to safety reasons from Central Dispatch.

An inquiry was made regarding gun sales in the Township. This is not allowed and would need to have a Special Use Application come before the Planning Commission.

A complaint was received regarding junk cars and horses on a parcel of land that is not big enough to house the animals. ZA Lewis has been in contact with our attorney.  Lewis will send out a letter to the homeowner stating a time limit to remove the junk cars and horses from the property.  If they are not removed by the time allowed further legal action will be taken.

Next meeting will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.
